Yeshiva "Ogalei Yaakov"

About us

About community:
Yeshiva "Ohaley Yaakov" was founded in 1991 in response to a request from a group of students of a religious seminary to create a permanent beit midrash in Moscow. The yeshiva was organized by American rabbis and a businessman, with RavEdya Sway zatzal as head, rosh yeshiva of Philadelphia.

Since 1993, the yeshiva has been located in the place that it still occupies today - in the very center of Moscow, Pokrovka street. The first head of the yeshiva was Rav Yosef Amsel, who later headed the Russian branch of the Lakewood yeshiva, formed from Ohaley Yaakov graduates.

There are many graduates from the yeshiva, who then dispersed around the world, but some remained in Moscow and made a significant contribution to the development of the Moscow community.

Since 2005, the yeshiva has had a kollel, whose staff consists of rabbis from Israel and 30 local young students who study Torah daily, the number of which does not stop growing.

The yeshiva is developing rapidly, new projects are being implemented, many people daily participate in the life of the yeshiva, spend Shabbaths and holidays in it.
Many people (about a thousand) with their families became closer to Judaism and began to live according to the Torah thanks to this yeshiva, and today it continues to play a very prominent role in the Toranic education of Russian-speaking Jews.
The community and its programs are under the well coordinatedobservation of Rav Avner Cohen and Rav Betzalel Mandel. RavYosef Refaeli is the Director of Programs for the Kollel.
The classes are held in Hebrew and Russian languages:

• Jewish philosophy
• Weekly Torah portion
• Talmud
• Alacha
• Musar
• Marriage and relationship
• Education of children

Education

Our Kollel:
There are two Kollel Seders (programs) in our community - Evening Kollel and Morning Kollel.
From 10:00 to 13:00 and in the evening from 19:00 to 21:00 every day students study Alacha, Mishnah and Talmud. By the end of each tractate, Siyums are made. The students reguralely join prayers in minyanim. Classes are held both in chevrutas (in pairs) and open groups with rabbis. Students are provided with a monthly scholarship

The program is designed for serious gentlemen who want to improve their skills in the study of the Talmud, whether they are beginner or advanced students.
The Kollel is often visited by significant guests and famous rabbis of Israel, who conduct lessons for the students, giving them the opportunity to consult and ask questions.

Classes are conducted under the supervision of the rabbis of the community.
Our Educational Institutions:

Heider “Reshit Hochma”

"The Reshit Hochma" school was opened by those and for those who consider the Torah important enough for it to occupy a central place in their lives and, accordingly, in the lives of their children.
Here students study Torah and mathematics, Mishnah and biology, Hebrew and Russian - and all this at a very serious level. Here every effort is made to ensure that children grow up smart and happy, that they come to school with joy and are proud to be Jews both at home and on the street.

In small classes, boys and girls study here (separately), which allows qualified teachers of the school to devote personal time and personal attention to each and everyone. And we can confidently say that this is the main know-how of this educational institution. Because we believe: a person is not a computer, and the importance of a personal relationship plays a paramount role in the educational process.
Every teacher here is a personality. Teachers of religious subjects specially came here from Israel not only to pass on educational material and share dry information rather to let each student feel their involvement in the Jewish values, the people of Israel and the Torah.
Constant master-classes, games and creative activities are also an integral part of the Reshit Hochma curriculum, and not only “at the free time”. Table tennis, games and toys for the little ones, the highest quality materials for handicrafts - all these you will also find here, in Reishet Hochma.

"Anita Center - Big Family"

This is a completely unique institution that has no analogues in Russia. Jewish children, deprived of parental warmth and care, receive here what no other children's institution of this kind is able to provide. The associations that come to mind when we hear the words "orphanage" have nothing to do with our boarding house. Therefore, we are against being called an"orphanage". In addition to a warm and in the full sense of the word parental attitude, children undergo a complete rehabilitation here.
In the pansion, children are brought up in the spirit of the Jewish tradition and receive an excellent education. After graduation, they have the opportunity to enter the best Russian and foreign universities.
Here they are provided with kosher meals, attend various Jewish events, go to the synagogue, observe Shabbat and celebrate all national holidays. The staff consists of professional teachers, psychologists and educators. In addition, the pansion’s childrengo on excursions, visit museums, cinemas, theaters and concert halls.

History of our home:
22 years
28 children
187 graduates
82 established families
The orphanage "House of Rafi" was previously called the "Anita Center Big Family" and officially opened on June 18, 1999 as part of the Moscow Jewish Community. The orphanage was founded by a married couple - Svetlana and Rafael Khakhiashvili, under the patronage of the Chief Rabbi of Moscow Pinchas Goldshmidt. The Jewish boarding school for orphans took on a very difficult but honorable mission. It consists in helping Jewish children left homeless and parental affection to start a new life. For more than 22 years, the Jewish orphanage has not only provided children with a roof over their heads and the minimum necessary for basic survival (food, clothing, education), but also creates all the conditions for their development - cultural, psychological, intellectual and physical. .
Mission: Our main goal is to give the disadvantaged Jewish children a fulfilling life based on the Jewish tradition, and to provide them with an excellent upbringing and education.

Torah Mi Tzion

"Torah Mi-Zion" has been working in Moscow since 1998 in the field of religious education, spreading the Jewish tradition and charitable activities.
All our projects have one goal - to give Jews the opportunity to feel cared for and find out who they are, where they come from and why they are here.
The greatest gift that a person has is his freedom of choice, but he can use it only when he has something to choose from. Torah Mi-Tzion gives anyone who crosses the threshold of its building an understanding of how rich our own heritage is, because sometimes what we have been looking for years in overseas countries is right in front of us.
We enable all participants in our programs to learn and do truly important things in the company of friends and like-minded people, enjoying delicious food and a pleasant spiritual atmosphere - this is what our organization tries to do.
We pay a big role to the charitable component in the educational process, when young people visit veterans of the Great Patriotic War, juvenile prisoners of fascism, help low-income families and the elderly, thus, step by step, making this world brighter and kinder.
Our greatest pride and joy is to see hundreds of Jews daily in our building who feel that there is nothing deeper, more interesting and sweeter than understanding how to live every moment of our lives meaningfully and consciously. Torah Mi-Tzion also makes every Jew feel that he is not alone. By strengthening the connection with his people, his Torah and his land, the Jew will always feel part of something greater.
And finally, Torah Mi-Tzion is a place where everyone is truly needed, where surrounding will be interested in your opinion and rejoice in your success. Here it becomes clear that no one, even the head of the generation, can take your chair at the huge table of the Jewish people, because "this world was createdspecial for you."

School “The Tree of Life / Lauder Etz Chaim”

"Lauder Etz Chaim" is a school in the center of Moscow with in-depth study of languages and Jewish tradition. So, Hebrew and English are studied at school from the first grade, and already from the third grade there is a differentiation by levels. But not only the language load distinguishes "Etz Chaim" from a number of other schools. To learn national traditions, have fun on holidays and plunge into the warm Jewish atmosphere - these are the tasks and opportunities for learning. All of the above, together with subject knowledge, forms a real personality, an educated and knowledgeable person. A person for whom high spiritual standards are not just a high-sounding phrase, but the goal of life, which also becomes a means to achieve professional success in the future.
Respect for the traditions of your people suggests that your child is brought up in the spirit of true values. Following the religious canons brings the learning process to a qualitatively higher level, where the depth of knowledge is adjacent to the respect for family values and moral principles.
Is it worth saying that the demand for institutions with a national component is not just a tribute to fashion, but a completely natural phenomenon of today?

At the lessons of Jewish history, the children get acquainted with outstanding personalities who have contributed to both national and world history. Much attention is devoted to the main milestones of Jewish history and the life of Jews in different parts of the world. Therefore, the school provides an opportunity to visit Israel, as well as other Jewish corners of the world - Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, the USA, Germany, etc.
The Etz Chaim School looks to the future with a confident look. Because the statistics say: after graduation, graduates receive a state diploma and successfully pass exams in the best universities of the capital.
For parents, it is always important how beneficial does the child spend his or her time at the end of the learning day. It is important to note that Etz Chaim is a full-time school.

Donation

One of the main commandments of Judaism is participation in charity. Helping the needy or investing in projects that serve the cultural or social development of the community, spreading knowledge about Judaism and supporting people who have chosen the path of studying the Torah, a person becomes like an intermediary between Gd and the recipient of tzedakah. It is very important at the same time to give with all your heart and with the confidence that in doing so the world becomes more just.
You can make an anonymous donation to the donation boxes installed in front of the entrance to the prayer hall or directly to the community cash desk.
